Painting being an important medium for the expression of visual fantasies from the prehistoric times, the artists of Andhra during the medieval period under the royal patronage decorated the walls and ceilings of the temples in different colours choosing mostly the epic thems to showcase the moral and ethical values besides extolling the greatness of the Gods and Goddesses. Focussing mainly on the iconographical and cultural perspectives, this book documents the mural paintings of Andhra region in a comprehensive manner. The study discusses the different marrative modes and strategies used in the portrayal of the epics scenes and legends by the articles besides comparing them with the neighbouring regions.
