The environment, science and technology are burning issues in the country. We were benefited by the two atlases prepared recently. These are (a) Environmental Atlas of the India in collaboration with Central Pollution Control Board, and (b) Sciences & Technology Atlas of India in collaboration with the National Science & Technology Management Information System (NSTMIS) division of the Department of Science & Technology. We have included one volume on such issues…On one hand the technological changes forced us to make modifications in our mapping schemes, while on the other hand the benefit of such technology was properly used in bringing out the atlas real time. The maps are being prepared and few copies are kept aside for the second edition, but the sale of loose sheets continued for benefit of different users. Unfortunately, the digital version of the atlas has not been planned due to several reasons. However, our standard bases at given scales are being digitized and some of the maps of this atlas were prepares by the digital mapping system, at the stage of preparing guide maps.
