Newly created state of Uttarakhand is a storehouse of important medicinal plants. It is endowed with the vast biodiversity. The use of wild plants for the health management is not new for the people of Uttarakhand but they have been using them from the time immemorial. The present volume deals with the medicinal trees, shrubs and climbers found in wild as well as under cultivation in Uttarakhand and it is a revised and enlarged edition of volume I published in 2003. The species are classified according to the scientific system of classification. The purpose of this book is to make identification easy, for which the book contains numerous coloured, photographs, apart from scientific name, Hindi name, Sanskrit name English name and local name, botanical description along with chemical constituents of the species etc.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR Rakesh Shah
Rakesh Shah is an IFS officer of Uttaranchal cadre. He belongs to 1984 batch of Indian Forest Service. He has vast experience of working in Government and in semi government organizations. He has worked on various posts in the department and outside the department. He has been DFO Ballia, Saharanpur, Pithoragarh, Champavat, Almora, East Almora Division, and Ramnagar, Working Plan Officer - East Almora Forest Division, Director, Kanpur Zoological Park, Regional Manager, UP Forest Corporation, Gorakhpur, Conservator of Forests, Working Plan - Circle, Nainital, Administration, South Kumaon Circle - Nainital, Western Circle, and presently he is working as Conservator of Forests, North Kumaon Circle, Nainital. In 1994 he was awarded the prestigious "Indian Forester's" Prize for his contribution in the field of forest utilization, for designing and manufacturing a "Fuel Bricketing Machine". And also in 1999 he was awarded "Best Plantation Prize" by the Government of UP. He has also compiled the "Working Plan" of East Almora Forest Division.
