The functional democratic model of India, in fact, miserably failed to realise the dreams of the founding fathers of the constitution, as our basic problems relating to poverty, illiteracy, backwardness, communalism, over-population, disparities, shortage of food, electricity and drinking water are still prevalent even after the fifty-four years of independence, notwithstanding the adoption of a socialistic pattern of society prior to 1990 and thereafter the country has a set mind to adopt the forces of market economy, globalization and liberalisation. Against this background, the book presents a critical appraisal of the entire situation on the country. The volume presents an indepth analysis of the problems and challenges with which our polity has been confronting in this decade.
