The book is a study of the operation of the Indian media in the context of globalisation with specific reference to the news agencies. Pointing out that the news agencies have been steadily losing their status as an important supplier of news to the newspapers over the years, it examines the quantum and percentage of news items taken from the Indian news agencies before and after globalisation to throw light on the position of the agencies in the overall news coverage over time. Based on content analysis of leading dailies in English and Hindi that represent different regions of the country, it identifies distinct trends in the world of news agency journalism. It studies the contributions of the PTI, the UNI and Hindusthan Samachar in particular as they have been the major news agencies in the past.
