NGOs, in this era of globalization, have gained popularity to work in the developmental fields such as health, education, income generation, environment, micro finance, social forestry, rural development etc. NGOs cannot replace the state, but may perform complementary as well as supplementary role. At the same time, they encounter difficulties as well as criticisms at organizational level. It is against this backdrop this book analyses the present developmental efforts of NGOs. Besides an introductory chapter, the book has two sections. While the first section, comprising ten chapters, deals with developmental facets of NGOs, the second section, including three chapters, focuses on the organizational aspects. In a nutshell, the book adumbrates how far the NGOs can contribute and to what extent the state depends on them in this age of globalization.
