The book views the power of media in transforming Indian society as a result of globalisation. It traces the emergence of the media-moulded society of today where nothing is beyond the media’s reach, with a blurring of the private and the public. It discusses the consequences of the contemporary media in action. With wide-ranging subject content and presenting diverse viewpoints, the essays here discuss the transformation of the reading public as well as the business of publishing over time, reinvention of Indian television after the 1990s and its effects, and the relationship between law and the media. They argue about the crucial role of the media and its detrimental effects as well, for instance, how media narratives in the context of reporting terrorism and other critical issues serve to disrupt efforts at long term stability.
