Novels of Manju Kapur-A Critical Study is a collection of scholarly research papers and articles, presenting an analysis of Kapur’s novels in order to assess and evaluate her place in the contemporary Indian English Fiction. Kapur shot into fame with her debut novel Difficult Daughters (1998) . The novel won for her the prestigious Commonwealth Eurasia Region Award for the best debut novel of 1999. After that she brought out A Married Woman (2002), Home (2005), The Immigrant (2008) and Custody (2011).

Manju Kapur is a post colonial writer who perceives the position of women in a patriarchal society and deals with the problems of women. She makes the woman a figure that fights against taboos, social and joint family restrictions and constraints laid by patriarchy in the tradition. Her writings reflect man–woman relationship, human desire, longing, body, gender discrimination, marginalization, rebellion and protest. The novels manifest women’s struggle for emancipation from economic, political and social bondages, voicing well the sentiments of women and their self-introspections. The female protagonists of her novels protest against male domination and are not silent rebels but are bold, outspoken, determined and action oriented.

The papers in this anthology will provide new perspectives and insight on the writings of Kapur. This work will be of great help to the researches and teachers of English Literature.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR Farzana S. Ali

Dr. Farzana S. Ali is presently working as an Associate Professor & HOD English at Dr Panjabrao Deshmukh Arts/ Com(eve) College Nagpur. She is MA (Eng) B.Ed , M Phil, SET, PhD. She has a total teaching experience of 24 years and is a Senate member of RTM Nagpur University. She is a PhD Guide & has edited books entitles WOMEN WRITERS IN ENGLISH -NEW PERSPECTIVES, Partition…The trauma of partitioned lives in films & fiction and glimpses of partition in south asian fiction. Her areas of interest include Indian Writing in English, Women writing & Partition Literature. Her articles have been published in many National & International Journals. She has attended many Seminars / Conferences / Workshops/ Refresher courses as Resource person & delivered lectures on literary aspects, NAAC Seminars & Global issues.
