This is the 46th practical and reference book published by FDCO on various aspects of plant nutrients, fertilizers and integrated nutrient management. Several of these books went into 2-3 editions or major revisions and were very well received around the world. This book is a continuation of our efforts in providing technically sound and easily understandable synthesis of scientific information for practical use by various stake holders.
This book is one of the very few if not the first one devoted exclusively to nutrient uptake, removal and recycling by crops. Since all crops absorb and remove all plant nutrients during their lifespan, information on the amounts of nutrients absorbed is of great practical interest in assessing the nutrient requirements of crops, demands on soil fertility, soil nutrient depletion and also for working out nutrient balance sheets.
The book analyses the information on nutrient uptake and removal by a wide range of crops. Both major and micronutrients have been covered. The crops covered range from food grains, commercial crops, horticultural crops to forest trees as reflected in the table of contents. In all, information on 185 crops has been compiled, analysed and discussed.
Hope that this book will be of direct interest and use to all those who are interested in nutrient requirement by various crops, nutrients absorbed to produce a certain yield level, the ratio in which major nutrients are absorbed and the portioning of absorbed nutrients in the main product and the remaining biomass. All these factors are related to balanced crop nutrition and nutrient balances in the soil-crop system.
