This book is a collection of articles by experts, addressing different aspects of the Indian Ocean such as Drugs from the Sea, Marine Instrumentation, Harnessing of Ocean Thermal Energy, Marine Hazards, Continental Margins of India, etc. The last chapter is the Vision Document developed by the Department of Ocean Development, based on three basic questions which were debated in the beginning of 2001: (1) what should we know about the Indian Ocean; (2) how much of it is known to us; and (3) what efforts should be made over the next 10 to 15 years to bridge the gap. This is the first Publication which addresses several aspects of the Indian Ocean, and should be of immense interest to all concerned.
