This textbook in 2 volumes is based on various economic minerals and deals with Ore Geology and Economic Minerals as well as Mineral Economics. The subject matter of Vol. 1 is divided into three sections for focused study. Section A “Resources/Mineral Resources” provides general information about our mineral resources, while Section B “Ore Geology” describes in sufficient detail, ore formation periods, ore genesis, ore fluids, forms, modes, structures, tectonics and mineralization, secondary sulphide deposits, etc. Section C “Economic Minerals” consists of comprehensive discussions on deposits of diamond, gold, iron, manganese, tin, tungsten, copper, lead, zinc, bauxite, mica, limestone and phosphorite.

Vol. 2 of the book is comprised of sections D, E and F. Keeping in view the development in marine science as well as increasing concerns for environment, ocean resources, manganese nodules and forest resources have been specially considered in Section D “Ocean and Forest Resources”. Section E “Mineral Economics” encompasses classification norms for mineral deposits, geo-statistics, criteria for mineral exploration and investment, ore microscopy, processing, etc. Legal provisions, national mineral conservation have also been included along with ocean/sea policy and forest policy. Section F “Mineral Based Industries” describes in detail iron and steel, aluminium, cement, fertilizer, refractory and abrasive industry need.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR S.K. Tiwari

Dr. Shiv Kumar Tiwari (1941) took his B.A. (1962) and M.A. (1964) degrees in First Division. He is the first Ph.D. recipient in Geography from Jabalpur University and the first Indian geographer to successfully complete a doctorate research in Biogeography. He has worked in Government Post-Graduate Colleges of Madhya Pradesh since 1964 as Lecturer, Assistant Professor and Professor. He now holds the post of Head of the Department of Tribal Studies in Rani Durgavati University, Jabalpur. Dr. Tiwari has so far authored more than a dozen books in diverse academic fields. His books â€˜Readings in Indian Zoogeographyâ€™ â€˜Zoogeography of India and South East Asiaâ€™ and â€˜Zoogeography of Indian Amphibiansâ€™ are widely recognized works in the field of Zoogeography. He has four times been assigned to write books for collegiate education by the Government of Madhya Pradesh. â€˜The Rajgondâ€™ his fifth book in this field, was also published by Agam Kal Prakasan (1992). Dr. Tiwari has written many research papers, general articles and monographs. He has so far directed six research Projects funded by UGC, ICSSR and Madhya Pradesh Council of Science and Technology. His works have been acknowledged by National and International Research Institutes like RMRC (Indian Council of Medical Research, AIU (Association of Indian Universities), Smithsonian Institute of Woodrow Wilson Centre, USA and University College, London, UK.
