Politics is considered by many as an obnoxious term. If there are two people in an organization, there is bound to be office politics, so say some experts. This is not hard to believe. One of the major reasons for the existence of office politics is limited resources which have to be shared among more than one contender. Resources such as capital, labour, equipment, come in short supply which are insufficient to meet everyone’s needs. Organizational politics is an age-old phenomenon. Ancient philosophers have given a number of discourses about human behavioural concepts, which shed light on political behaviour within the organizations. What is the solution? Can we prevent office politics? No and yes! No, because it is irrepressible. Yes, because there are always ways to avoid the negative spiral caused by office politics by striving to become a better human being. Values such as forgiveness, fairness, transparency, humility, practicing what one preaches, and ethical conduct play a major role in moderating behaviours which give rise to manipulation, sabotage, politicking, etc. This book serves as an introduction to the widely-prevalent phenomenon of office politics – a subject which not many authors have chosen to write about. Members of organizations will find this book to be of immense value. In addition, HR professionals and students of organizational behaviour will also find the book to be of great utility.
