This compendium of ten papers, organized by the Indira Gandhi National Tribal University, Regional Campus Manipur, attempts to examine the role of culture in social integration, with special reference to Northeast India. Taking a close look at the traditional administrative system of tribal communities, it discusses at length the Morung system and the advent of Christianity in Manipur.
Further addressing the issues concerning culture and identity, it describes in detail the social customs of tribal people and their role in social integration. Also it deals with the social institution of Kabui, Rongmei dormitory system, sexuality and gender identity, traditional conflict resolution system, and the challenges and opportunities of tourism for the tribals. Finally it analyses the relationship between culture and society.
