The award of Nobel Prize for Literature in 1976 to Saul Bellow was an extraordinary event. Bellow has been visiting Professor to Princeton and New York Universities and Associated Professor at the University of Minnesota. Bellow’s grasp fo ironical situations and his handling of material has elevated him to the status of a major American Post-War Novelist. Although a lot has been talked and discussed about Bellow, there is always something new to say about a prolific, and original writer. The present book is an attempt to elevate Bellow in the eyes of reading public. Though there have been quibbles about the relative merits of modern American Novelists, it is now widely accepted that Bellow is the most accomplished writer now only in American but also in world literature.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR Shobha Bajpai
Dr. Shobha Bajpai, Head, Department of English, BSNV PG College, Lucknow, obtained her Post-Graduate Degree in English Literature securing first position in the order of merit and Ph.D. in American Literature from Lucknow University. She is a Guest Faculty for Business Communication and Professional Communication for MBA and B.Tech students at the Institute of Engineers and Technology, Lucknow and also for MEG Programme in Indira Gandhi National Open University. Dr. Bajpai is a creative writer, a poet and a freelance journalist as well. She has been honoured by Geetanjali Multi-lingual Literary Circle, Birmingham, U.K. in 2003 for promoting harmony and understanding between cultures through language. She has to her credit an acclaimed membership of ICCR, Government of India that facilitated her visit to many cities of the U.K. and the Netherlands to participate in many poets’ conferences and present academic papers.
