The publication studies the emerging scenario of the party system in India. The essays attempt to present a comprehensive analysis of the institutional dimensions, processes and agenda, federal manifestations, transitions and impact of globalisation as well as the impact of media technology on the party system in India. They argue that the party system has turned competitive and the political situation has become fluid. They examine electoral politics, the role of the middle classes, manifestoes of the political parties and narratives of the public. The chapters take up specifically political challenges in India’s north-east states and representation of marginalised sections in the political parties. They also address the issue of how the political parties have reached out to the Indian diaspora and addressed their core concerns and how the diaspora has been participating in politics in India working closely with the political parties.
