The publication of the work entitled, "Pattern of Urban Settlements in Gujarat", Should help to build the continium of a healthy relationship between urban and rural settlements on one and hierarchy of urban settlements on the other. The incentives for the development of small and medium towns and control of development of large cities can help to build ecological balance in the geographic planning regions in the state. Today there exists an urgent need to the pattern of urban settlements in each state within the overall policy of urbanization, which can be translated for urban development. Strong incentives and help from mainly the state departments of Environment, Regional Planning, Urban Development, Industry, Commerce, Health, Education, Public Works, Energy, Communication and Community Development are essential in order to achieve this goal.
