This Volume analyses the problems of university finances and management of India. It discusses in detail the policy changes since 1991 in financing higher education in India and establishes a strong case for treating higher education as a ‘merit-good’ which deserves state subsidy. At the same time this study throws light upon the possible ways and means to recover partially the variable costs of higher education. This study has identified the problems of university management as well in the light of the experience of University of Mysore. It would be useful for teachers, researchers, administrators, and policy-makers of higher education since it provides many new perspectives and insights into the working of university education system of India.
