Pharmacogenomics identifies specific genes associated with disease susceptibility and drug response, in order to facilitate the rational design of drugs with improved efficacy and safety. Once genes are identified for disease susceptibility, further insight into the etiology of the disease process can be gained, which will open avenues for disease prevention. Currently, pharmacogenomics research faces the challenge of gathering information relating to the location and frequency of variations in human genome sequences and information about the associated laboratory and clinical phenotypes manifested by these individuals, besides also understanding the correlation between the two. Pharmacogenomics Knowledge base (PharmGKB) serves the research community as a resource for genotype and phenotype data and visualization and analytic tools to analyze them. This book provides an insight into the innovative technologies and protocols of pharmacogenomics, besides presenting an array of articles from reputed sources and authors.
