In recent years, plant biotechnology has emerged as an exciting area of research by creating unprecedented opportunities for the manipulation of plant systems for better yield. This textbook is, meant for scientists, research scholars and students to grasp of the subject. This book explains the basic techniques used (tissue culture, genetic engineering, induced expression of pathogenesis related enzymes) and the applications (in medicine, food and feed, seeds, plants, energy, pollution, mining and biomaterials) of Plant biotechnology. The main objective of this book would be to improve and share the advanced knowledge on plant biotechnology in the minds of readers. Hence, there will be a chance for the readers to know and understand their research knowledge with research papers of eminent scientists. In this book maximum number of research articles deals with tissue culture regeneration of economically important crops like Arachis hypogaea, Capsicum annum, Carthamus tinctorius, Cicer arietinum, Cucumis sativus, Glycine max, Gossypium hirsutum, Helianthus annus, Lycopersion esculentum, Morus alba, Sesamum indicum and Sorghum bicolor. Apart from the money yielding plants, in vitro regeneration protocol for medicinal carnosus, Cichorium intybus, Clitoria ternatea, calotropis procera, hemidesmus indicus, Lippia nodiflora, Mucuna pruriens, Pavetta indica, Ricinus communis, Solanum triobatum, Solanum vioceum, Vernonia cinerea, Vitex negundo, Vernonia cinere and Wedella wellichi. Protocols for genetic transformation of peanut and sugarcane were also reported in this book. Completely different and new protocol for plant regeneration was described for cotton and Okra. A Simple and efficient regeneration protocol for somatic embryogenesis of soybean, sorghum and sesamum were also enclosed in this book. In one paper Dongre et al., reported about the molecular characterization of cotton by using ISSR molecular markers. This book is focused to publish the recent advances and simple plant biotechnology methodologies used for the crop improvement. Hence, I hope that this book will be useful for the improvement of biotechnological knowledge of young students, researchers and industries.
