Large number of transgenic crop plants have now been released for commercial production using transformation technologies. Virus-mediated, chemical mediated microinjection, electroporation, particle-bombardment and other transformation methods are routinely used. However, problems are associated with stable integration and reliable expression of the DNA after integration. Genetic analysis of plants is a basic requirement for studies in genetics and plant breeding. Marker, be it morphological, biochemical or molecular, play a key role in genetic studies. With the increasing availability of information on genome sequences for different plant species, the sequence specific molecular markers (e.g. SNP, TRAP) are becoming more important and useful over the random DNA Markers (e.g. RAPD, DAF). This book provides deep insight into the molecular techniques of genetic transformation and the application of molecular markers, used to scrutinize DNA Sequence variation(s) in and among the crop species and create new sources of genetic variation by introducing new and favourable traits from landraces and related crop species. Examples are from crop and horticultural plants including rice, sugarcane etc. The book also covers nanotechnology and its application in plant biotechnology.

This book is unique in several respects, the most important being the attempt to deal with all the topics in depth and to find molecular aspects of different processes of plant genetic transformation and molecular markers and is aimed towards the students, researchers and teachers in the field of plant biotechnology in universities, agricultural and horticultural, engineering institutions and industries.
