Politico-Administrative Dimension of Air Pollution deals with the existing legislative provisions for controlling air pollution and the role played by politico-administrative machinery in maintaining the sustainable environment. It also analyses the effectiveness in combating the problem by pointing out strengths and weaknesses of the politico-administrative machinery and giving valuable suggestions for further modifications to enhance their efficiency. The system of prevention and control of air pollution in India is based mainly on the governmental edifice. Administrative structures have been created at different levels of government to cope with the adverse effects of air pollution. The functional dynamics of the politico-administrative system of management of air pollution has been characterized by a number of undesirable side effects, which the system does not visualize. The present findings have proved that the functional dynamics of management of air pollution machinery in Delhi lead to undesirable effects. The present book brought to the fore some of the regressive elements of air pollution management system like discrimination in the mitigation and abatement fighting operations among rich and poor, lack of active people’s participation in the governmental efforts at mitigating the adverse effects of air pollution, rampant corruption, no clarity in role and responsibilities of various units of the system, lack of accountability on part of the government officials, over centralization, and highlights the need for eradication of the negative features of the functioning of machinery for prevention and control of air pollution.
