Postmodernity: An Indian Appraisal

Authored by eminent scholars and researchers from the disciplines of philosophy and theology, based at different institutions in India, USA, Germany and Norway—a total of 15 essays and articles have been compiled in this edited volume, addressed largely to the Christian audience. These articles introduce the reader to the vague and popular notions related to postmodernity, its historical origin, its salient features, and the newer challenges offered by it in the specific Indian social context. This is followed by an engaging discussion on some concrete applications of postmodernity to complex Indian phenomena like caste system, domination, folk religiosity, etc. Finally, the book attempts at responding creatively to some wider issues of significance—notion of God, vision of reality, and mortality—against the backdrop of Indian realities and postmodern challenges.
