The book deals with the problem of poverty in the Manipur valley, which accommodates about two-thirds of the state population in less than one-tenth of its area. In the backdrop of the physical and cultural setting of the region, which determine the pattern of socio-economic development, the present study portrays the profile of poverty in temporal as well as spatial frames. The study highlights the impact of poverty alleviation programmes at regional and grassroot levels and recommends a appropriate strategy for amelioration of poverty in the state. A must for the students of geography, economics, sociology and rural development studies.
