Concern for poverty in India has always been universal, but after the colonial rule, interest in poverty got momentum at first slowly and then by leaps and bounds. Despite enormous research the problem have defied a globally accepted solution. Persistence of these problems, inevitably suggest strengthening of efforts to evolve widely accepted framework of research on poverty. The present study is a modest effort in that direction. The book has been divided into six chapters, various issues concerning poverty like concept, incidence, poverty alleviation programmes etc. have been dealt in detail. The book also contains a chapter on incidence of poverty among rural scheduled caste. It is hoped that the book will be acclaimed by the scholars, the social scientists and the planners.
