Wage labour circulation is an important phenomenon as the poverty stricken rural agricultural wage labourers and other rural workers are virtually forced to move outside of their home villages in search of employment and livelihood. And, this kind of labour circulation involves family disruption, agony, pain and despair. Such phenomenon exists in Birbhum district and hence, a study is undertaken in this district to come up with certain remedial measures. The present study is based on the data collected in the field from five randomly selected villages of Bolpur Sriniketan block in Birbhum district and explores the pattern of wage labour circulation, its characteristics, spatio-temporal dimensions and consequences thereupon. It sheds light upon one of the crucial human problems of "poverty, inequality and labour circulation". Thus, it contributes to an advancement of knowledge in the field of population geography. The findings indicate towards a colossal waste of human resources and energy instead of any appreciable gain on the part of the individual circulators. The findings deserve immediate attention for ameliorating the problems associated with wage labour circulation.
