Practical Manual of Angiosperm Taxonomy aims to provide the students all they need to know about the practical aspects such as morphological characters, and systematic identification. The manual consists of eight chapters with the first chapter dealing with all the basic requirements in the botany laboratory that a student should know. The working compound microscope, the most important tool in the laboratory is explained in detail in the introduction, along with various procedures of study such as section cutting, staining, mounting etc. Chapter 2 deals with classification of Angiosperms and chapter 3 deals with Herbarium Techniques: Chapter 4 deals with a Glossary of all Taxonomic terms. Chapter 5 deals with derivation of families while chapter 6 deals with method of Description of a flowering plant. Chapter 7 gives the salient features of the families of the Angiosperms. Chapter 8 deals exhaustively with description of 174 species of Angiosperms in semi-technical terms.With the increased awareness of importance of laboratory studies, this practical manual should serve as an important aid to help students familiarize themselves with laboratory methods in Botany.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR S. Sundara Rajan
Dr. S. Sundara Rajan obtained the D.Sc. degree in Botany from the University of Mysore, specializing in plant morphology. He has been teaching and conducting research in Botany for the past 33 years. Currently, he is the Head of the Post-graduate Department of Botany, St. Joseph’s College, Bangalore. Dr. Sundara Rajan’s research interests include plant morphology, physiology, genetics and evolution. He has published over 40 research papers in National and International Journals and has authored more than a dozen books on botany published by leading publishers of India. Dr. Sundara Rajan has traveled abroad widely and has presented papers in many International Conferences. He has contributed several invited articles to many books and encyclopaedias. Presently, his research interests include tracing the history of botany in ancient India, on which he has published about half a dozen papers. Dr. Sundara Rajan has received many research awards and grants. Recently, he has been given the state award for being the best college teacher in Science by the Government of Karnataka.
