The book ‘Practical Plant Breeding’ concentrates on floral biology, selfing and crossing techniques, breeding objectives, breeding methods and breeding accomplishments of each crop. The whole volume is packed into 28 chapters. Chapters 1-3 deal with the general aspects of breeding crop plants; practical accounts of developing high yielding varieties in cereals, oilseeds and pulses (chapter 4-16); practical approaches to develop hybrids (chapter 17); field plot techniques and genetic designs (chapter 18); methods for estimation of different quality parameters and chromosome techniques (chapter 19-20); gene recombinations in F2 and response to selection (chapter 21-22); male sterility, self incompatibility and breeding records (chapter 23-25); varietal testing and release in India and seed production (chapter 26-27) and methods of growth analysis (chapter 28).
