Comprehensive studies on the evolutionary processes of crust in relation to metallogenesis constitute a sound basis to develop the concept-based models and strategies for mineral exploration in potential metallogenic domains worldwide. The Central Indian Precambrian Shield has attracted the attention of researchers as well as the exploration geologists and strategists from this viewpoint with increasing understanding about its mineral potentialities and related geological settings in the recent years. Critical lack of relevant database and geological information on the subject, however, has often circumscribed such studies in large part of this Precambrian Shield. The Volume is a compendium of ten papers concerned with its main theme; they include selected papers from a nation-level Seminar on "Precambrian Crustal Evolution and Metallogenesis" which was held at Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad during Jan. 29-30, 1993 as part of the Tenth Convention of Indian Geological Congress, beside few invited papers. It is hoped that the Volume, though printed belated, shall be a welcome edition to the economic geological shelves of the libraries for the benefit of young researchers whose future contributions may benefit the cause of concept-based exploration in the region much more in years to come.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR K.L. Rai

Dr. K.L. Rai is the Professor of Applied Geology at Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad. India’s leading technical University in the field of mining and mineral sciences. He has been has been associated with the mineral industry for over three decades now, rendering valuable services for the acquisition and dissemination of knowledge in the specialised fields of economic geology, mining geology, mineral exploration and mineral economics. After a distinguished and highly meritorious career of his University education. Dr. Rai served as a mining geologist of a reputed manganese and coal mining organization of Central India from 1961 to 1964 and thereafter as a University teacher and research scientist in various positions in India (at Indian School of Mines) and abroad. As a NORAD Research Scientist at University of Oslo, Norway from 1969 to 1971, he specialized in ore-geology and sulphide geo-chemistry. In 1976 he was awarded the prestigious ISM Golden Jubilee Research Award. From 1980 to 1986, he accomplished a prestigious assignment on deputation from the Govt. of India as Professor of Mining Geology at University of Constantine in Algeria under Indo-Algerian S&T Cooperation Agreement. He has, to his credit, over 75 research publications including a research monograph, apart from the guidance of a dozen Ph.D. and over 40 M.Phil/M.Tech – level research programmes in Indian and foreign Universities.
