Primary Education and Mid-Day Meal Scheme: Results, Challenges and Recommendations

Primary education is the most important component of education edifice and is the second largest education system in the world. The objectives or primary education in India are multi-dimensional and broad-based. Since independence emphasis has been given to universal elementary education and especially universal primary education. Further to achieve the target of universalization of primary education, the governments have introduced various initiatives including mid-day meal programme. The present book in a lucid manner seeks to examine and evaluate the performance of mid-day meal scheme and discusses meaning and concept of primary education, objectives, problems and constraints in the way of primary education. Students’ perception regarding the effect of mid-day meal along with teachers, parents, community-leaders, educational administrators’ opinions with regard to the performance, shortcomings and implications of mid-day meal have been dealt. Results, challenges and recommendations have also been added towards the end of this book to make it more indispensable for better implementation of the mid-day meal scheme.
