Since the dawn of history, people have fought against other people. Any struggle in which two large groups try to destroy or conquer each other is a war. There have been many kinds of wars. Families have fought against families, tribes against tribes, and followers of one religion against followers of another. In modern times, wars have been fought between nations or groups of nations. Wars have always caused great sufferings and hardship. Most people hate war, yet for hundreds of years war has been going on somewhere in the world nearly all the time. Societies decide its destiny with the iron and blood and make every effort to perfect their military hardware and war equipment to defeat the enemy. To understand why wars continue to go on when nearly everyone wants to have peace. Therefore, we must understand the war and warfare. Probing war and warfare is an academic attempt to understand the concept and meaning, history, theory, causes, necessary evils, nature and scope, law, principles and procedure of war. Further, an attempt has been made to understand revolutionary warfare and low intensity conflict, psychological, economic, chemicals and biological, nuclear electronic, space and information warfare. What revolution in military affairs is taking place is also discussed to understand the future course of war and warfare.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR J.A. Khan
Dr. J.A. Khan was born on July 25, 1956 at Sultanpur (UP). After graduation from Avadh University Faizabad (UP), he did his Post Graduation in Milkitary Studies from Meerut University Meerut (UP). Dr. Khan was awarded his Doctorate on the topic “Air Power in India’s National Security†in 1987 and joined the Dept. of Defence and Strategic Studies, Bhonsala Military College, Nashik – 422005 in 1990. Before joining Bhonsala Military College Dr. Khan was instructor in the Faculty of Aeronautical Engineering, Military College of Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, Secunderabad. Dr. Khan has wide ranging research interest and his paper/s have been published in journals of national and international repute. Dr. Khan excelled as Principal of Dr. A.H. Rizvi Degree College, Jaunpur (UP) for 2 years. Also, Dr. J.A. Khan as a Principal Investigator has completed a Major Research Project sponsored by University Grants Commission, New Delhi entitled “Choice of Military Career: Socio-Psychological Factors (Shy Technocrats are Reluctant to Join the Armed Forces) and the research report is published. At present, Dr. J.A. Khan is working as a Principal Investigator in the other Major Research Project sponsored by University Grant Commission, new Delhi entitled “Armed Forces and Society-Indian Perspectivesâ€. A book entitles “Air Power and Challenges to IAF†by Dr. J.A. Khan is also Published.
