Profile of Rabindranath Tagore in World Literature

This volume published under the auspices of the Centre of French studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, comprises a collection of critical essays on Rabindranath Tagore and brings out the interaction of different social ethos of different cultural communities which initiate a process of creative assimilation of cultural values and norms as reflected in foreign language and literature based on a dialectical relationship between the consciousness of the self and the otherness of the alien culture which constitutes a new unity. The otherness of the alien culture has become a factor in literary appreciation and has opened up new ways of experiencing the heterogeneous relationship of the transcendence of the self and the manifestation of the other. Hence Rabindranath Tagore works becomes a creative medium of cross cultural communication fostering both ways transfer of ideas and thoughts of different races and people which have become the common heritage of mankind.
