The present volume, Protecting the Cultural Heritage – National Legislations and International Conventions is a pioneering work. It provides for the first time a complete view of antiquarian laws of India and those in the international field as promulgated by the UNESCO and agreed by the world community. Here is a most successful attempt to bring forth all the Indian Acts and Rules regarding art and antiquities in historical sequence since 1878 providing an insight to the scholars, students, lawyers as also those dealing with antiquities and art objects. International Conventions and agreements are included in the volume to make an awareness of legal position in case of dispute in the matter of cultural heritage. The book will surely serve as a handy legal instrument to anyone who desire to protect and conserve the Cultural Heritage, which is the paramount interest of humanity today.
