Andhra Pradesh, one of the 28 states of India, lies between 12?37’ and 19?54’ N latitudes and 76? 46’ and 84?46’ E longitudes. The state is endowed with a variety of vagetation ranging from semi evergreen forests to dry evrgreen scrub and littoral mangroves to arid sand dunes. A total of 86 species of Pteridophytes under 48 genera and 28 families have been enumerated in the book. Topography and general features, past and present work, forests and vegetation and key to the families have been given in the beginning. Pichi-Sermolli’s (1977) system of classification has been followed with certain exceptions to accommodate recent changes. All the keys are of dichotomous indented type. Under each species the original citation is given followed by relevant basionyms. Synonyms if necessary to connect Beddome’s Ferns of Southern India and Handbook to terns of British India, Ceylon and Malay Peninsula are given. ABOUT THE AUTHOR Ameer Ahmed

Dr. Ameer Ahmed did his M.A. English (1975) and M.Sc., in Botany (1980) from Sri Venkateswara University, Tirupati. He obtained M.Phil. (1986) and Ph.D. (1995) degrees from Sri Krishnadevaraya University, Anantapur. He is working as a Reader in Botany and Head of the Department of Microbiology in Osmania College, Kurnool. He has more than 33 years of undergraduate teaching experience. He has also served as a Lecturer teaching for ‘A’ level students appearing for London Board Exams at Abu Dhabi (UAE). He has published a couple of papers on Pteridophytes and attended nNational Seminars.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR P. Amrutha Lakshmi

P. Amrutha Lakshmi obtained her M.Sc., degree in Botany (2000) from Sri Krishnadevaraya University, Anantapur. She is currently doing her Ph.D. on Ferns. She has published a couple of papers on Pteridophytes and attended National Seminars.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR T Pullaiah

Prof. T Pullah obtained his M.Sc. (1971) and Ph.D. degrees in Botany from Andhra University.  He was a Post-Doctoral Fellow at Moscow State University, Russia, during 1976-1978.  He traveled widely in Europe and visited Universities and Botanic Gardens in about 16 countries.  He joined Sri Krishnadevaraya University as Lecturer in 1979 and became Professor in 1993.  He held several positions in the University as Dean, Faculty of Life Sciences, Head, Department of Botany; Chairman, Board of Studies in Botany; Head, Department of Sericulture; Co-ordinator and Chairman, Board of Studies in Biotechnology; Principal, S K University College and Warden, S K, University Hostels.  He has published 43 books, 238 research papers and 35 popular articles in Journals of repute.  He is the Principal – Investigator of 20 major Research Projects totaling more than a Crore of Rupees funded by DBT, DST, CSIR, UGC, BSI, WWF, GCC, BARC etc.  Under his guidance, 45 students obtained their Ph.D. degrees and 34 students their M.Phil. degrees.  He is the recipient of Best Teacher Award from the Government of Andhra Pradesh, Prof. P Maheshwari Gold Medal of the Indian Association for Angiosperm Taxanomy.  He served as the Vice President of the Indian Botanical Society and presently the Councilor of the same.  He served as a member of Species Survival commission of International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN).
