Purnasarasvati has a distinguished place in the galaxy of Kerala authors who have made their mark in the arena of Sanskrit Literature. Prof. N.V.P. Unithiri who did his doctoral thesis on Purnasarasvati has been engaged with his research work on various aspects of the great poet critic for more than the last three decades. During this period he has shown the true spirit of a researcher to correct himself. When one of his students finds a more acceptable version on the date of Purnasarasvati, he has redily consented to revise the same, though the earlier finding was well accepted by other eminent scholars like A.K. Warder. In this book having three parts, Prof. Unithiri enquires the identity, life and works of Purnasarasvati in the first part. In the second part his creative works are analysed. The third part includes the analysis of his critical works and commentaries. In this part the ninth chapter contains more that 3500 quotations of the poet critic cited with original source details which will be of much help to new researchers. A hitherto undiscovered treatise on dramaturgy is also given as appendix of this book.

Dr. N.V.P. Unithiri is one of the few scholars who have been engaged in the deep study of various facets of Kerala Sanskrit literature for the past three decades. In fact, his efforts can be regarded as conplementary to the work of the pioneers in that he focuses his attention on many fresh areas left untreated or inadequately treated. The present work, which is a collection of eighteen research papers, deals with many fascinating aspects of the Sanskrit heritage of Kerala. Sanskrit has been a medium of creative expression of some remarkably brilliant poets; it was also a language of Kerala?s philosophical thought. We have, again, turn to Sanskrit to decipher Sanskrit sources like inscriptions and Mahakavyas to find out the missing links in Kerala history. Last, but not the lest, our scientific heritage can be unearthed only when we can decode Sanskrit source books on Astronomy, Mathematics, Architecture and Medicine.
