This book on the Himalayas is thought-provoking and unique, as it traces political, economic, social and cultural changes from the Pamirs to Nepal in the last 2000 years and the impact of cataclysmic movements in the earth’s crust and their impact on the changes. The present book tries to reconstruct a glorious and unified Himalayas from the ruins of its geography, history and political economy. It is not possible to think of a brighter future for these poverty stricken people unless all these physical, social, cultural, historical, political and economic aspects are analyzed in the light of the present day problems being faced by the Himalayan societies.
