Ramastapadi by Rama Kavi is a condensation of Ramayana, presented in the form of soul-stirring songs (Astapadis), that are interspersed with verses (slokas) to maintain the continuity of the narration. The author closely follows Valmiki in content and Jayadeva for the format of the Astapadis. In Sanskrit, Astapadi is a unique form of poetry popularised by Shri Jayadeva in Gita Govindam. The author has also suggested the raga and the tala in Carnatic music, in which each song is to be rendered.
