The rare and threatened limbless lizard, Barkudia insularis, Annandale is an elongate, worm-like which leads a secretive subterranean life in the gardens and densely vegetated areas in the Andhra University campus, Visakhapatnam, A.P. The habits, habitats, activity, food and feeding behaviour, reproductive biology in situ and in captivity were studied. Conservation programmes with strict implementations as well as management strategies and action plans were carried out. The authors heartily welcomes any criticism and suggestions regarding the contents of the book that would help to revise this monograph and to make this more applicable.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR Madireddi V Subba Rao

Madireddi V. Subba Rao got his M.Sc. Zoology with 1st class and 1st Rank in 1963 from Agra University, Agra and awarded Ph.D. in 1968, from Sri Venkateswara University, Tirupati. He was Post-Doctoral research fellow at Creedmoor State Hospital, Queens, New York, U.S.A. in 1969 and D.Sc. (IOU, Sri Lanka) in 1997.He was Visiting Professor in Biology, Hofstra University, Hempstead, L.T., New York, U.S.A. (1969). He was a Professor and Head of the Department of Environmental Sciences, Andhra University, Visakhapatnam, India. Now he is a President in Environmental Research Academy (EnRA) International.
