This book presents a multidisciplinary analysis of the development of the Indian national flag and the way in which it came to be seen, appropriated and sacralised by different groups. An attempt has been made to understand the politics that go into making of such ways of seeing the tricolor flag, probably, the most revered among the symbols, icons and markers associated with nation and nationalism in twentieth century India.
Also it examines the symbolic space of the flag as a contested field and to get an analysis of the cultural practices addressing political questions in colonial and post-colonial India. The dynamics of resistance has been approached as well through a number of events and debates revealing multifaceted dimensions of the conflict.
