The present volume-VII is an endeavour to bring out biographical sketches of some of the distinguished plant pathologists of the world. An attempt has been made not only to describe the outstanding contributions but also their paths to success. Unfortunately, the space does not permit to include the list of publications. The biographies have not been arranged in any particular order. The present volume is the part-I of the volume-VII and includes the memoirs of 20 eminent plant pathologists including a few, namely Butler, Mundkur and Mehta, who laid foundations of plant pathology in India. Most of the articles have been written by subject matter specialists who have been in close touch with the distinguished plant pathologists. But in certain cases only the publised material formed the basis for the write-up, but even these have included personal anecdotes to indicate their intimate interest in the subject, its teaching and students. We hope that this volume will insprire the young mind to chose plant pathology as a career, and the old mind to go deeper in the subject and solve complex plant pathological problems to serve the society.
