From the Preface: "Medicinal plants remain the main source of medicines for a large proportion of the world’s population particularly in the developing world, despite the advent of the pharmaceutical chemistry during the early twentieth century which has brought with it the ability to synthesize enormous variety of medicinal drug molecules and allowed the treatment of previously incurable and/or life threatening diseases.

The available literature information is enormous and a total number of 91 genera and 431 plant species with 5333 references under alphabet ‘Da-Dy’ (as per the botanical names) is covered in the current volume. The monograph on each plant includes regional names, habit and habitat, Ayurvedic description (wherever available), Sanskrit synonyms, uses ascribed, ethnobotanical studies, the details of botanical, pharmacognostic, chemical, pharmacological/biological, clinical ad toxicological aspects backed by complete references on each aspect of the information cited. Coloured photographs of some important medicinal plants have been also included.

The series of publications may be useful for researchers, scientific bodies, herbal drug industry and other organizations. The policy planners, regulatory and health authorities may also find it equally useful."
