ABOUT THE AUTHOR Gunavante S.M.
Born in a middle class family in North Kanara in 1915, he had his schooling in Honavar. He used to top the class in school and in the matriculation examination held in 1933, in the then Bombay State, he was among the first 100. He could not pursue his studies owing to pecuniary difficulties and took up a job in the Oriental Life Insurance Co. in 1935. By dint of sincere devotion to duty he rose, from humble beginning to the position of Assistant Secretary (Development) in the L.I.C., before he retired in January 1975. During the last few years in service, as he held a responsible position in the Development Dept., concerned with the training of Life Insurance agents, Mr. Gunavante took active part in two training seminars and wrote a number of booklets for training the agents in their sales and servicing work. He was also commissioned to write a textbook on ""Marketing"" for fellowship students of the Federation of Insurance Institutes.
