This book is a collection of published accounts on the rocks of Nagaland by geologists of the Geological Survey of India and the Directorate of Geology and Mining, Nagaland. Valuable inputs from faculty of the Geology Departments of Nagaland University, Assam University, Kohima Science College, and other research scholars who have independently worked in various parts of the state have also been included. The classical treatises on the geology of the region by redoubtable geologists such as Mallet, Oldham, Hayden, Pascoe, Evans and Mathur form the cornerstone on which the geology of Nagaland has been constructed. Their comprehensive reports have been condensed and systematized to give under graduate students in geology a lucid portrayal of the rock types found in each district of the state. Since, there are no books yet dealing exclusively on the rocks of Nagaland, it is felt that this slim volume though limited in content will throw some light about the rocks, economic minerals and fossils or the forces that created hills and valleys out of the floor of an ancient sea. This book can also serve as a source of quick and easy reference when anyone plan out or undertake field studies in any part of Nagaland. Vizovol Mekro (b. 1962) is an Associate Professor of Geology in Kohima Science College, Jotsoma, Kohima, Nagaland.
