In a developing country such as India, the broadcasting system has a central place in the total mechanism of political communication. All India Radio, with its monopoly over the broadcasting network in India, has made a significant impact on the over-all socialiation of the Indian masses and appears to have developed a capacity and potentiality to influence the Indian psyche in a purposive manner. However, these capabilities of a broadcasting system have greater chances of manifesting themselves in a period of crisis than in normal times. Women Role in media developed in the country in good measure, yet no empirical study of the impact of mass media in the articulation, formulation and expression of public opinion has been attempted so far in India. Resultantly, we have only an impressionistic approach to the role of women in Mass media, especially of all India Radio. It is therefore proposed to undertake an empirical study of the role of All India Radio as an instrument of political communication in the specific context of the Indian crisis. The editors are painfully aware of the shortcomings, and shall welcome any criticism and suggestions from the readers for improvement in further editions.
