Basically India is an agricultural country and agricultural growth has direct impact on poverty alleviation and countryâ€™s prosperity. As such India is mainly dependent on integration of its agriculture with industry. After Independence, the role and importance of rural agro-based industries as well as development of infrastructure facilities in the economic upliftment of the rural people has been recognized. Agro-based industries help to improve the state income and facilitating an equitable distribution of the same among different sectors and regions in e4conomy. Furthermore, they help to promote decentralization of development in the economy. Large-scale employment opportunities are generated by these industries on one hand, and on the other contribute enormously to the process of self sustained growth. Agro-based industries are instrumental in harnessing the dormant potentials of agriculture and industry and through their mutual integration, they accelerate the pace of rural development. In the present study, an attempt has been made to analyze the importance of agro-based industries in the rural economy.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR B.S. Yadav

Dr. B.S. Yadav is presenlty working as a Reader and Head, P.G. Deptt., of Economics D.N. College, Gulaothi (Bulandshahr). He obtained his M.A. in Economics (1973) with first division from the University of Rajasthan, Jaipur. He got his M.Phil degree in 1978 with first division from the Panjabi University, Patiala. He did his Ph.D., in Economcis (1989) from the Agra University, Agra. Dr. Yadav has to his credit a number of articles and research papers published in variuos leading Economic Journals. Forty eights students have also complected their Dissertations in M.A. (Eco.), under his supervision till now. Dr. Yadar has already authored and co-author several books on Economics.

Dr. Sachi Rana has a very brilliant and excellent academic career. She obtained her M. A. Degree in Economics in 2001 with First Division from D.N.P.G. College, Gulaothi (Bulandshahar), Ch. Charan Singh University,Meerut. She was awarded Ph.D. Degree in Economics in 2005 by Ch. Charan Singh University Meerut. She Has contributed a number of articles to the various academic journals.
