The developing and under developed nations traveled a long distance on the road of economic development and have made significant progress in various sectors. However, the development in rural areas has not kept pace with overall progress in other facets of national life. Even today a large percentage of the rural poor subsist in poverty and there remains acute shortage of basic facilities such as housing, drinking water and roads in rural areas. The sustainable development of rural areas is essential for the nations to realize their potential and unless the processes of all-round growth, based on the latent genius of the rural masses.
