The volume is concerned with the development of the relations of Russia with the newly-independent sovereign states of Central Asia in the post-Soviet, post-Cold War era. Arguing that unlike the situation in the Tsarist past, Russia has been trying to engage the Central Asian Republics (CARs) in multifarious ways. It focuses in-depth on Russia’s foreign policy towards the CARs and relations between Russia and the CARs especially in the areas of security, energy and migration among others. It emphasises the relation of bonding that Russia has cultivated with the nations. It also points out the involvement of a number of global and regional powers in the Central Asian region as it is rich in energy resources and examines the manner in which this region can act as a viable trade and transport corridor between the continents of Asia and Europe.
