Vinoba Bhave’s contribution in political and socio-economic struggle for the attainment of swaraj was a significant phenomenon in the annals of our sub-continent. A true Gandhian as he was he appeared to be a saint from his dress which indeed was very simple. His sincere identification with the causes of the rural people made him quite popular. His Bhoodan and Gramdan movements brought about significant and historic results. The book has deep bearing on swaraj, democracy as he realised, the Bhoodan movement, Gramdan movement, progress, and extent of the Bhoodan, nature of donation, his mass contact programme and last but not the least the legacy which he left for posterity. Thus the theme contains ten chapters on his ideology and philosophy of life. This work would be a useful study for teachers, scholars and students in India and abroad.

Dr. Sangh Mittra is Deputy Director (Research) in Indian Council of Historical Research, New Delhi, a National Institute of repute. Besides her academic responsibilities in the council, she is intensively involved in other academic activities. She is an eminent social scientist and author of more then three dozen books in History and Archaeology and several research in reputed research journal. She did her M.A., L.L.B, Ph.D. in Archaeology from University of Lucknow and is submitting her D. Litt. Work shortly. She has been presenting research papers in National and International seminars and member of International and national Institutions, societies and has academic links with numerous institutions of higher learning. She is honorary professor and director of B.R. Ambedkar Social Sciences Institute, Bundelkhand University, Jhansi, U.P.
