This book is an outcome of extensive empirical investigation undertaken by the Author in two blocks of in Tirunelveli district of Tamil Nadu on the percolation of benefits under the Indira Awass Yojana of Jawahar Rozgar Yojana which dealt with the comprehensive housing of scheduled castes. Since the topic is related to the Scheduled Caste welfare which involved collection of both secondary and primary data, the author had to put intensive efforts to collect the reliable and original data from various sources as well as from the respondents in the study blocks/district. He also got the support and assistance from Gos particularly DRDA in the collection o f secondary data in the study district. This book undertakes a comprehensive analysis of Group Housing Scheme (IAY) incorporating the salient features of Jawahar Rozhar Yojana, the benefits derived by the scheduled castes out this programme and impact assessments etc. This book is organized in to seven chapters, each chapter is focused on the issues and topics within the broad area of scheduled castes welfare. ABOUT THE AUTHOR P. Kannappan
Dr. P. Kannappan did M.A., M.Phil Degree Programmes in Sociology in Madurai Kamaraj University and got his Ph.D. awarded in Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Tirunelveli. He has organized and participated in many National and International Seminars which addressed the issues and problems related to youth and marginalized communities. He has been a consultant to many non-governmental organizations which deal with the issues of women, child labours, child abuse, rural development etc., His areas of specialization in teaching, research and consultancy includes social problems, social demography, research methodology, empowerment of marginalized groups and population education. Dr. P. Kannappan has wide exposure and work experience in the areas of social welfare, micro level planning, prevention and rehabilitation of child labour and physically challenged at National and International levels through research and consultancy. He also served once as Director of the Department of Youth Welfare in Mononmaniam Sundaranar University. Dr. P. Kannappan is currently serving as Reader in Sociology in the Department of Sociology, Manonmaniam Sunderanar University in Tamil Nadu. He has put in more than twenty years of the service in the university and represented and contributed in the university bodies and committees like syndicate and conveners committee.
