In this book school Effectiveness through Leadership style and Organizational Health, the author has made a sincere effort to look into the problems assailing schools, examining the leadership styles of headmasters and principals, looking into the organizational health of schools and the combined effect of leadership styles and organizational health on school effectiveness. This study has found the key threads of school effectiveness to be principal leadership, particular goal selection, school climate, and other intervening variables, which flow out of leadership. The author was able to develop three questionnaires to measure leadership style, organizational health and school effectiveness. This book will undoubtedly prove to be a boon to researchers working in the area of school leadership styles, organizational culture as well as TQM in schools. It is hoped that the findings of this study will provide practical help to principals, teachers, and people who run schools, on how to optimize their existing resources, leading to quality schools all over the country.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR Joshua Mar Ignathios
Joshua Mar Ignathios (Previously known as Dr, Koshy Varghese) was educated in the Catholic Seminaries at Trivandrum and Trichy, and took his degree in Theology from the Urban University, Rome and the Postgraduate degree in History from Madurai University. He has also taken his Master’s degree in education from the same University and Doctoral Degree in education administration from the University of Madras. Having been ordained a priest quite young he began his spiritual service as a pastor in a small village church and then served as Parish Priest of the St. Thomas Malankara Catholic Church of Chennai for 15 years. He was also the Director, Mar Gregorios College, Chennai. He made his mark as an effective administrator by being the Principal of the Sacred Heart Higher Secondary School, Chennai for 14 years. Elevated as the Auxiliary Bishop of the Catholic Archdiocese of Trivandrum, Dr. Joshua presently serves as Chairman of the Education commission of the Malankara Catholic Bishops Council, Secretary of the Kerala Catholic Bishops Conference and also as the Chairman of the Commission for Labour of the Catholic Bishops Conference of India besides being the Vice-Chancellor of the Pontifical Institute of Philosophy and Theology, Alwaye, Cochin.
