ABOUT THE AUTHOR Ashok Jain
Dr. Ashok Jain, Director, NISTADS, New Delhi is a Ph.D. in Theoretical Physics from the University of Delhi. He has been associated with Kyoto University, Japan; Bristol University, England and the International Centre for Theoretical Physics, Trieste, Italy. Besides research papers in physics, Dr. Jain has to his credit several research papers and articles on the theme of Science, Technology and Development. He has been a member of Indian Council of Social Science Research and has served on various committees of the Commonwealth Science Council, UNESCO and other national and international agencies concerned with Management and Planning of S&T. He has been involved in S&T policy formulation exercises in several developing countries.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR Subodh Mahanti
Dr. Subodh Mahanti, after obtaining a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry, Dr. Mahanti worked in Molecular Biology. Presently he works in NISTADS, New Delhi on issues in science communication and science, population and development interconnectivity. Besides papers and articles, he has edited several books relating to science, technology and development. Dr. Mahanti has introduced a Science-in-Society Newsletter a regular feature of the annual sessions of Indian Science Congress.

Prof. Yash Pal formerly Chairman, University Grants Commission, New Delhi has been General President of the 77th Indian Science Congress; Secretary, Department of Science and Technology and Director, Space Applications Centre is also well-known for his contributions in the field of particle physics and cosmic rays. Equally well-known are Prof. Yash Pal’s contributions in the field of science, communication and development.
